A new phase
You are coming to the end of your university studies and you have your diploma in your pocket. What next? For some, the last year or so of studies can include an internship or work placement which is part of the assessment. This serves to open some doors – sometimes to jobs, sometimes to someone who will act as a mentor in your life. Sometimes the internship turns out to be some months working in a role far from what you choose to be doing now.
So what can you do to prepare for your next steps?
Work out what you want to do. What are the skills you want to use and to develop further ? Which areas of work interest you the most and where do you want to be geographically? What would be the job of your dreams ? What do you really NOT want to be doing ? Are you clear about the strengths you could bring to a job?
Think about who can help you. Do you know anyone who works in the world you want to be in ? Tell people around you what you are looking for so that they can help you perhaps by linking you to someone they know.

Present yourself well on your CV and on job platforms (Linked In Indeed Xing etc). Ask people you trust for feedback on what you have written and check for accuracy. Present yourself in more than one language if you have an international profile.
Work hard on maintaining your confidence and good health: exercise regularly, eat well, drink plenty of water and get good sleep.
These are some things I help people with in their coaching sessions when they are seeking their first role – get in touch to find out more.
