What are the regular things you do to look after yourself? I like to think of these as things that top my energy back up and make me feel good.
Looking at beautiful and interesting things feeds me positively. This can be visiting a beautiful place or going to an exhibition. This weekend I saw a show of photos in Düsseldorf by Peter Lindbergh. He grew up round here and the harsh cityscapes and features from heavy industry seep into his work: a steelworker’s mask, a dockside setting for his fashion shoots. Maybe this gritty side of his work appeals to me because I too grew up in a city of heavy industry. Most of the photos in the show are in black and white and they are stunning. I left feeling lifted by the stark beauty of them.
I loved the images of women he made. They are natural, with little make up, strong and with a raw sexuality to some of them. His muses are world class : Helen Mirren, Jeanne Moreau, Juliane Moore, Nicole Kidman and the super models: Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Helena Christiansen, Karen Elson..
These images made me think (not for the first time..) about how we present ourselves as women at work and elsewhere. Things have shifted over the years. Appearances are still a focus for women who are too often judged and judged harshly for their appearance before anything else, even by themselves.
So the women in these photos may be some of the most photogenic in the world but there are messages for me here about being yourself, being comfortable in what you wear and moving away from artifice, nonetheless. Knowing what you feel good in and look good in gives confidence and can energise you. It’s different for each woman.
Finally the back room in this show was full of giant portraits of a man condemned to die by lethal injection. There is also a film of him looking directly into the camera. Don’t miss it if you go. I’d love to know what you think about it.

Long time supporter, and thought I’d drop a comment.
Your wordpress site is very sleek – hope you don’t mind
me asking what theme you’re using? (and don’t mind if I steal it?
:P)
I just launched my site –also built in wordpress like
yours– but the theme slows (!) the site down quite a bit.
In case you have a minute, you can find it by searching for “royal cbd” on Google (would appreciate
any feedback) – it’s still in the works.
Keep up the good work– and hope you all take care of yourself during
the coronavirus scare!
