What have you planned for yourself and your career for this year? Nothing yet maybe, if you are taken up with managing the impact of people sick with COVID in your home and workplace? January, a month which sometimes feels endless, has kept me busy handling the day-to-day. Getting a longer perspective means taking time out to reflect and discuss with people we trust. Maybe some of these questions will help you?
- What will you do this year to learn something new?
- How will you gently push out of your comfort zone into new possibilities?
- What are you going to do this year to make new alliances and build new friendships?
- How will you consolidate and expand your work networks?
- How do you want to be an agent for change in the world around you?
- What life plans do you have? By this, I mean beyond work?
I am 60 this summer and it is a moment for taking stock. If I am lucky enough to have 20 more years left what do I want to do with them?
A good exercise for planning your next steps is to think about being at your own 80th birthday party: who do you choose to be there with you and what do you want to be able to look back on as you celebrate?
As we start each year in our house we look ahead to plan holidays together . Before Covid this was ‘where are we going to and when?’ It’s been harder to set up going away with restrictions on travel..so what can we plan in for fun, well-being, inspiration and a change of scene?
We are drawn to visiting extended family as we live in another country from them – I remind myself every time – this is not a real holiday – we need to make space for just our partner, or immediate family and friends, as well outside the pressures of work, school and the usual routine.
Proper breaks punctuating the year give space for relaxation , reflection and help change happen. Sharing your intentions with a coach and starting to take small steps to change things for yourself are ways forward. I invite you to email me if you would like to work with me in either French or English or both.
